Building Strong Foundations for the Future

DBI Projects, founded in 2002, began as an Owner’s Project Management firm (“OPM”) with a vision to offer high-quality, innovative solutions to complex projects. In its early years, the company grew incrementally, focusing on developing relationships that would lay the groundwork for its future success. Over the years, the company has built on these initial successes, expanding its reach while maintaining a strong focus on its core values of collaboration and creative problemsolving. Jonah Stern founded the OPM’s Boston office in 2019 after years as a project leader in its New York City headquarters, bringing a keen understanding of how to navigate complex projects with precision. Jonah is a prime example of DBI’s values, embodying the company’s culture of excellence and client-centric focus. As he describes, DBI Projects’ success has always been rooted in a deep commitment to client relationships and high standards of project execution. Operating with a unique blend of startup energy and established expertise, DBI has embraced the opportunity to thrive within various client markets. “In Boston, we function like a startup,” Jonah explained. “But we have the backing of a company with over 20 years of experience to help us navigate challenges and deliver results.” DBI’s work spans a broad range of industries and project types, with particular strength in academic, cultural, and nonprofit initiatives. What truly sets the company apart, however, is its ability to develop deep connections with the mission and purpose of its clients. Whether it’s a project at MIT’s campus in Cambridge, at the Fessenden School in West Newton, or the historic Temple Israel of Boston – the largest Reform Synagogue in New England – DBI approaches every project with a shared sense of purpose. This connection to the client’s goals ensures not only successful project completion but also lasting partnerships that extend well beyond the final handover. “We’re not just completing projects,” Jonah shared. “We’re supporting organizations that are changing lives and shaping communities. That’s what makes our work so meaningful.” The Temple Israel project is a comprehensive transformation the physical space of the synagogue for the benefit of staff, leadership, the congregation, and the broader Temple Israel community. Theproject involvesnot only restoring elements of the existing structure but also adding modern interventions to accommodate the evolving needs of the congregation. Jonah highlighted how the project presented both technical and creative challenges. “The renovation work is complex, given the historical significance of the building, but it’s an exciting opportunity FEBRUARY 2025

for us to blend tradition with innovation,” he said. “We’re ensuring that while we preserve the architectural integrity, we’re also adapting the space to fit the community’s current and future needs.” Jonah emphasized the collaborative nature of the project. “Working with a client that values both history and progress has made this project especially fulfilling. Our team is committed to navigating challenges, such as preserving key historical features while adding modern, functional spaces,” he explained. “Our goal is to ensure the building continues to serve as a spiritual and community hub for generations to come.” DBI Projects is also the OPM on the development of a new dining hall and community center at The Fessenden School, an independent boys’ boarding andday school for Pre-K through9thGrade inWest Newton. Work includes design and construction of a new 26,000-sf facility, as well as demolition of an existing structure, all while maintaining harmony withintheenvironmentofanactiveschool campus. Matthew O’Connell, DBI’s Senior Project Manager overseeing the Fessenden project, said, “The new Dining Commons Building supports Fessenden’s mission to build a cohesive day and residential community enriched by nurturing relationships. DBI’s critical thinking and strategic support have allowed school stakeholders to make structured and informed decisions about their buildings and operations, charting a path towards realizing this mission.” At the core of DBI’s success is its unwavering commitment to problem-solving. The team embraces challenges as opportunities to innovate,

collaborate, and deliver creative solutions. From unforeseen site conditions to material delays, they tackle obstacles head-on, viewing them as a chance to prove their adaptability and expertise. “Challenges are inevitable in our line of work,” Jonah said. “What sets us apart is howwe respond. We don’t shy away or push issues onto someone else. We take ownership and work collaboratively to find the best path forward.” This approach to ownership and collaboration is ingrained in DBI’s culture. It starts with the way the company engages its employees, fostering an environment where every voice is valued, and everyone feels invested in the success of the team. New hires are integrated thoughtfully, ensuring they align with DBI’s values and are well-prepared to contribute. This intentional onboarding process helps maintain a cohesive team dynamic and ensures that each member shares the company’s commitment to excellence. Collaboration extends beyond the team to include clients, who are seen as partners throughout every project. DBI prioritizes open communication and alignment with client goals, creating a shared vision that drives each endeavor forward. This partnership-driven model has been particularly effective, where the team has developed strong relationships with prominent local institutions. By taking the time to understand their clients’ needs, DBI has built a reputation as a trusted advisor and problem-solver, capable of navigating even the most complex projects. This approach extends to team building, where DBI emphasizes quality over quantity. By being selective in their hiring and investing in the training and development of new employees, the FEBRUARY 2025

company ensures that its team remains cohesive and capable of tackling challenges together. This deliberate approach to growth has allowed DBI to maintain its high standards while steadily expanding its impact. At DBI Projects, their corporate culture is as much about the people they work with as it is about the work they deliver. One of the key factors that has contributed to the OPM firm’s growth and ongoing success is the power of word of mouth. Existing clients refer them to their peers in the nonprofit world, having experienced firsthand the level to which DBI is willing to go to ensure their clients’ needs are met and their projects are delivered successfully and thoughtfully. The company emphasizes that they don’t just manage the project, but they involve themselves in the details, too. As DBI looks to the future, growth remains a priority—but not at the expense of quality or culture. Rather than chasing rapid expansion for the sake of growing, the team is committed to thoughtful, responsible growth that preserves the values and principles that have defined DBI’s success. “We want to grow, but we’re careful about how we do it,” shared a team member. “It’s not just about scaling up; it’s about making sure we can continue to deliver the level of quality and care that our clients expect.” To learn more about DBI Projects and their work, visit their website at https://dbiprojects.com/. u Homes anship in Every Build THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE AMERICA - EAST

Chateau Homes, founded by owners André Timmermans and Jason DeVries, is redefining the homebuilding landscape in West Michigan with a focus on architectural innovation and high-end craftsmanship. André’s passion for architecture and Jason’s real estate expertise have allowed Chateau Homes to carve out a niche in the luxury custom home sector. André’s design approach is marked by distinctive features—tall peaks, expansive windows, and fullbed masonry cladding on the front elevations. These elements emphasize natural light and curb appeal, creating homes that are visually striking and livable. “In Michigan, 90% of homes are built with vinyl or LP siding, and masonry is typically reserved for high-end homes. The lack of skilled masons in the area has made this craftsmanship cost-prohibitive for many builders,” André explains. “But we wanted to offer something different—homes with large windows that bring the outdoors inside and the kind of curb appeal you rarely see in the area. These features reflect a style that’s more common in Quebec or Ontario but is underrepresented here.” André notes that these characteristics resonate particularly with younger buyers, especially families in their 30s and 40s, who appreciate the modern, light-filled spaces Chateau Homes creates. Jason DeVries complements André’s design vision with his extensive knowledge of the local market. As an experienced real estate investor and licensed Realtor, Jason has cultivated strong relationships with local banks and understands the intricacies of West Michigan’s real estate landscape. “With my expertise in construction and Jason’s market knowledge, we’re able to offer a holistic approach to homebuilding. It’s a true partnership,” André says. Together, they provide clients with not only beautifully designed homes but a seamless building experience. An integral part of the team, Rachelle Timmermans brings her expertise as a licensed Realtor and FEBRUARY 2025

experienced interior designer to Chateau Homes. Rachelle ensures that every home’s interior is just as thoughtfully designed as its exterior. She works closely with clients to create personalized, functional spaces that enhance the livability of each home. While André oversees the architecture and overall design, Rachelle’s focus on interior details—from layout and flow to materials and finishes—ensures that each home meets the highest standards of both beauty and function. Her ability to curate designs that reflect the client’s lifestyle and preferences has been key to Chateau Homes’ success in delivering spaces that feel like home. Chateau Homes’ strength lies in their ability to offer clients a complete, high-end experience. “We strive to build a perfect home, and we build it like it’s our own,” says André. This dedication to quality is reflected in the meticulous attention given to both the exterior and interior of every home. The company specializes in custom homes built in select West Michigan communities, with a focus on the upscale markets. Their portfolio includes single-family homes and larger luxury developments, ensuring that all projects maintain the highest standards of quality. “We focus on fewer homes so we can give each project the attention it deserves,” André explains. This approach allows them to deliver homes on time and within budget while ensuring every detail is carefully considered. One of Chateau Homes’ standout projects is a FEBRUARY 2025

recent custom build on Medinah Lane in West Michigan. The home combined modern design elements with traditional craftsmanship, featuring expansive windows that offer panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and stone masonry that anchors the home in its natural surroundings. This project highlights the company’s ability to blend contemporary and traditional styles while maintaining a focus on quality and attention to detail. Looking ahead, Chateau Homes continues to maintain a balanced portfolio of custom homes and spec builds. “I always said to myself, I only want to do as many spec homes as I have custom homes going. So we try to keep it around a 50-50 split,” André explains. This year, the company is working on several custom projects alongside one or two spec homes. By maintaining this balance, they can offer clients both highly personalized, one-of-a-kind homes and beautiful spec homes that are thoughtfully designed and expertly built. Chateau Homes’ reputation in the industry is further reinforced by their active involvement in local and state homebuilding associations. The company is a registered member of the Home Builders Association of Western Michigan (HBAWM), a membership that underscores their commitment to quality and industry standards. “Being part of the HBA ensures that we’re up-todate on the latest trends and building codes, and it provides peace of mind for our clients knowing that all our homes come with the HBA standard of new home warranty,” André says. Their membership also reflects their dedication to building safe, THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE AMERICA - EAST

high-quality homes that adhere to the latest construction practices. The company’s commitment to quality extends to its relationships with suppliers and partners. Chateau Homes works with top-tier manufacturers, including Southfield Windows, Permacon Stone, and Superior Cabinets, to ensure that only the best materials are used in each home. SouthfieldWindows, for example, are vinyl windows that come steel reinforced with a baked-on coating for durability and a long-lasting finish. Permacon Stone, sourced from Quebec, adds a unique touch to every home, combining French Canadian architectural influences with timeless masonry. Superior Cabinets, a Canadian manufacturer, provides highly stable, moistureresistant cabinetry that’s perfect for Michigan’s varied climate. “We view our suppliers as trusted partners, not just vendors,” André explains. This collaborative approach ensures that every home is built to the highest standards of craftsmanship and durability. Chateau Homes’ corporate culture is a key driver of its success, emphasizing creativity, collaboration, and mutual respect among its small, close-knit team. “Everyone plays a vital role in our success,” says André, underscoring the importance of communication and teamwork. This collaborativespirit extends to theirmarketing efforts, where the team works together to build a strong presence both online and in the local community. Their website effectively showcases their custom homes, and platforms like Instagram FEBRUARY 2025

allow them to engage with potential clients, share project updates, and offer behind-thescenes insights into their design process. “Social media is a great way to connect with the newer generation of homebuyers who are always looking for inspiration and ideas,” André explains. Participation in events like the Parade of Homes, where they earned second place last year, further expands their reach and helps forge lasting relationships with future clients. Looking to the future, Chateau Homes plans to continue growing while maintaining its focus on quality and customer satisfaction. “We’re always looking for ways to innovate—whether it’s through new materials, technologies, or sustainable practices,” says André. With a solid foundation, a commitment to craftsmanship, and a client-first approach, Chateau Homes is poised to continue shaping the luxury housing market in West Michigan and beyond. Graber Supply Building with Integrity and Vision for the Future FEBRUARY 2025

Graber Supply, founded in 1991 by Reuben Graber, has grown from humble beginnings into a prominent player in the construction and building supply sector. Originally from the Midwest and raised in the Amish community, Reuben developed a passion for construction early on, working with his father to build pole barns. After leaving the Amish in his early twenties, he pursued a college education and continued his work in pole barn construction to support himself. In 1989, he relocated to Eastern Pennsylvania, where he initially worked selling and installing garage doors as a side job while searching for a more permanent role. However, after struggling to secure a banking job during a tough job market, Jonathan’s father made THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE AMERICA - EAST

a pivotal decision that would shape the future of Graber Supply: he began selling metal roofing and siding, with help and encouragement from his cousin, who owned Graber Post in Montgomery, Indiana. This marked the start of Graber Supply, which initially focused on metal roofing and siding. The company’s relationship with Graber Post has endured over the years, with Graber Supply receiving a truckload of metal every week from them to this day. In 1991, Jonathan’s father took a significant step by purchasing 35 acres of commercially zoned land in Atglen, where Graber Supply is still based today. Now led by Reuben’s son, Jonathan Graber, who took over as general manager in 2020, Graber Supply continues to build on the solid foundation his father laid. A family-owned business which began by supplying materials for construction and has since expanded to design and build custom structures. With Jonathan at the helm, the company is looking to the future with a vision focused on growth, innovation, and maintaining its legacy of quality. When Jonathan assumed leadership, his vision for the company was clear: “My goal has always been to grow the business, both in materials as well as in design and building services,” he says. The company now operates in two main sectors— supplying materials to contractors and working directlywith end customers on design and building projects. With plenty of room for growth in both areas, Jonathan has focused on streamlining FEBRUARY 2025

systems and processes in preparation for expanding the company’s marketing and outreach efforts. This proactive approach marks the start of a new phase for Graber Supply, one that opens doors to even greater opportunities. Two key areas of focus for Graber Supply are the growing demand for larger residential projects, especially in what Jonathan calls “barndominium” style homes, and light commercial work. Jonathan sees significant potential in these sectors, particularly in post-frame buildings, which offer considerable cost savings compared to traditional steel-framed alternatives. “We’re seeing a lot of potential for savings, sometimes up to 30%, when customers opt for post-frame buildings instead of traditional steel frames,” Jonathan explains. Post-frame buildings have several advantages, especially in residential projects like barndominiums. What sets post-frame construction apart from other building methods is its flexibility and cost-efficiency. “Post-frame buildings allow for open, column-free spaces, which is a huge draw for barndominiums and large residential projects,” Jonathan says. “On the commercial side, we can save our customers a significant amount of money compared to building with steel framing. It’s a win-win for both residential and commercial clients looking to optimize their budgets.” Another factor that sets Graber Supply apart in the industry is its ability to control the quality of the materials it uses. “We both supply the materials THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE AMERICA - EAST

and handle the design and building aspect, so we have better control over the quality than contractors who just buy from a lumber yard,” Jonathan explains. The company’s long-standing reputation for reliability plays a significant role in its success. “Our business is largely based on referrals, and that’s a testament to our customers’ satisfaction. We’ve earned their trust by providing great service and following through on our promises,” he says. Customer satisfaction remains key to Graber Supply’s long-term success. Jonathan emphasizes the company’s commitment to understanding customer needs. “At the end of the day, it’s about customer service,” he says. “We focus on listening to our customers and making sure we’re meeting their expectations. The satisfaction comes from delivering quality work at a fair price and following through on what we say we’ll do.” This approach results in a loyal customer base that continues to FEBRUARY 2025

grow through repeat business and strong wordof-mouth recommendations. “Our clients know they can count on us to get the job done right, and that leads to repeat business.” Graber Supply’s success is also fueled by its long-term relationships with suppliers and subcontractors, some of whom have been with the company for over 20 years. “We’ve built up a great network of subcontractors over the years, and many of them have been working with us for decades. They understand the standard we hold ourselves to, and that helps ensure everything goes smoothly on the job site,” Jonathan says. “Having these long-standing partnerships allows us to ensure that we’re getting top-quality materials at a fair price, and it helps us maintain consistency in our work.” This is exemplified by the company’s ongoing relationship with Graber Post, a trusted metal roofing and siding supplier. Looking to the future, Jonathan’s vision for Graber Supply is about more than just growth; it’s about creating a lasting impact on everyone involved— employees, customers, and suppliers alike. “The biggest reason I wanted to get involved in this business is because I believe in the power of business to positively impact people’s lives,” he shares. Whether it’s providing a fulfilling work environment for employees or helping customers achieve their goals, Jonathan wants Graber Supply to create lasting value for all its stakeholders. “I want to make sure that we’re not just growing in size, but also in the impact we have on the people we work with.” Under Jonathan’s leadership, Graber Supply is poised for continued success. The company’s focus on strong relationships, quality craftsmanship, and a forward-thinking approach to post-frame construction ensures that it remains a trusted name in the industry. With ample opportunities ahead, Graber Supply is ready to take on new challenges and expand its footprint in the residential and commercial construction sectors. As Jonathan concludes, “Our clients know they can count on us, and that’s what keeps them coming back.” For more on Graber Supply, and get in contact with Jonathan and his team, visit https://www.polebarn. com/ or give their office a call at 610-593-3500. A Legacy of Craftsmanship: Lutgen Companies’ Journey FEBRUARY 2025

Lutgen Companies, a family-owned home remodeling firm based in Central Minnesota, has been a cornerstone of quality craftsmanship and dependable service since its founding in 1983 by John Lutgen. Originally starting as a modest siding business, the company has evolved over the years, expanding its offerings to include gutters, windows, roofing, and full-scale remodeling services. In 2019, the company entered a new chapter as John’s son, Sean Lutgen, assumed ownership and brought a fresh perspective, sparking a period of dynamic growth. Reflecting on his upbringing, Sean shares, “My dad started the company the year I was born. By the time I was about eight years old, I was already helping out—whether it was sanding boards, picking up shingles, or shadowing him on job sites.” This early exposure to the family business laid the foundation for Sean’s deep understanding of the industry. He officially joined the company full-time in 2001, where he honed his skills in sales, project management, and leadership. When Sean took over in 2019, he brought with him a vision for modernization and expansion. “I had a different vision than my dad did at that time,” he explains. “That’s part of why I decided to buy him out. We had the opportunity to modernize and expand our services, and I wanted THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE AMERICA - EAST

to take full advantage of that.” The results have been transformative. Over the past five years, Lutgen Companies has evolved exponentially in terms of size and revenue, a clear testament to Sean’s successful integration of new strategies, technologies, and expanded service offerings. At the core of Lutgen Companies’ success lies a deep respect for the values passed down through generations. Sean reflects, “I think the biggest thing is what my grandpa installed in my dad and what my dad installed in me. It’s really simple: you charge a fair price, treat people fairly, and fix your mistakes, and you’ll always be busy.” These principles, rooted in integrity and customer care, have been the bedrock of the company’s longstanding reputation for quality and trust. This growth, however, has not come without its challenges. Managing the balance between scaling the business and maintaining the personalized service Lutgen Companies is known for has required careful strategy. “One of the keys was investing in a strong team,” Sean emphasizes. “Many of our employees have been with us for years, and their expertise and dedication have been invaluable during this period of rapid growth.” This emphasis on investing in talent and fostering a positive corporate culture has played a crucial role in Lutgen Companies’ success. The company’s culture is one of mutual respect, continuous learning, and professional growth. “We emphasize not just hard work but a supportive environment,” says Sean. Regular training programs, team-building activities, and open communication channels ensure that every employee feels valued and empowered. This positive work environment translates directly into exceptional service for clients. “Our employees take pride in their work,” Sean notes, “and they are motivated to deliver their best.” Lutgen Companies also recognizes the importance FEBRUARY 2025

of building strong, lasting partnerships with suppliers and local stakeholders. These relationships are vital for maintaining a smooth supply chain and ensuring the quality of materials and project timelines. “Our suppliers play a huge role in our success,” Sean highlights. “We’ve built relationships that ensure we get the best materials and support, which directly benefits our clients.” These partnerships extend beyond suppliers to include industry associations and local groups, providing invaluable support and keeping the company on the cutting edge of best practices, building codes, and market trends. “Being part of these associations helps us stay updated with the latest trends and standards, which in turn benefits our clients,” Sean says. In addition to relationships and team dynamics, technology has played a significant role in Lutgen Companies’ evolution. “We’re always looking for new tools and techniques to enhance our work,” Sean notes. The integration of advanced project management software, energy-efficient building materials, and cutting-edge technologies has streamlined operations and improved communication, ultimately leading to better project outcomes. One of the company’s defining features is the remarkable amount of repeat business it has generated over the years. Sean proudly shares, “My dad’s very first siding job, we just worked for them again last year. We’ve probably worked for them 20 times in the last 40 years.” This long-term client loyalty speaks to the trust and satisfaction that Lutgen Companies has cultivated with its customers over generations. “Many of our clients are repeat customers or come to us through recommendations,” Sean adds. “That trust means everything.” The company’s focus on building lasting relationships has not only contributed to its continued success but also reinforced its reputation as a reliable and trusted business in THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE AMERICA - EAST

the Central Minnesota home remodeling market. Reflecting on what sets Lutgen Companies apart, Sean shares, “You know, I think there are probably two answers to that. People that know of us or have been referred to us hire us for peace of mind. They trust that we’ll do the job right, and it will be painfree. They expect things to go smoothly, and they know they’ll be happy with the final result.” For new customers, Sean emphasizes how the company’s seamless process stands out: “From the initial phone call to the lead scheduler, to the sales team, to the production team and installers, we’ve built a very streamlined process. It’s simple for our customers, and that’s what makes us stand out.” The company’s marketing efforts have further solidified this reputation. While Lutgen Companies benefits from a strong word-of-mouth referral network and repeat business, Sean and his team also leverage digital marketing strategies to expand their reach. This commitment to trust is further amplified by the company’s active involvement in the local community through sponsorships, charitable projects, and local events. These efforts have strengthened Lutgen Companies’ brand as a FEBRUARY 2025

community-focused business. Looking ahead, Sean plans to continue this growth trajectory by further innovating and expanding the company’s service capabilities. “We’re looking at new ways to diversify our services while staying true to what we do best,” he says. The goal is to remain at the forefront of home remodeling in Central Minnesota while staying true to the foundational principles that have guided the company since its inception. “We’re always exploring emerging building technologies and sustainable materials to differentiate ourselves in the evolving market,” Sean adds. Ultimately, Lutgen Companies aims to remain a leader in the home remodeling industry, continuing to build on the legacy that John Lutgen started. “We want to keep providing excellent service, adapting to our clients’ needs, and making a positive impact in the community,” concludes Sean. “That’s what Lutgen Companies has always been about.” To learn more or to get in touch with Sean and his dedicated team, visit https://lutgensco.com. ACE Consulting was founded in 2008 by Scott Arias with a clear vision: to create a comprehensive Division One consulting firm built on integrity, ethics, and service excellence. The company quickly became known for its commitment to doing the right thing, a principle that continues to guide its operations today. “First and foremost, we give 10% – the first 10% of everything we make – to God. So, we give it to a Christian charity here in Lexington,” says Scott. “I’m a firm believer that the solution to the world’s problems lies in all of our hands. So we can do what we can do with what God has given us,” he says. This deep-rooted guiding philosophy extends beyond just financial growth, it’s about creating a company with strong moral principles. “The military taught me a lot of things, like keeping your word and doing the right thing. Those principles have been the foundation of how I run my business,” Scott reflects. The company’s culture reflects this integrity and commitment to doing the right thing. For Scott, it’s important to foster an environment where employees feel valued and part of something greater than just the job. “What sets us apart is probably our ethics,” Scott shares. “We try to always do the right thing, and that goes a long way for a lot of people.” In an industry often driven by deadlines and numbers, ACE Consulting strives to build relationships based on trust. “The simple fact that you’re going to be honest and keep your word, that right there is the differentiator,” Scott continues. ACE Consulting operates with a diverse range of capabilities, allowing it to take on projects of all sizes, from small consulting jobs to larger-scale infrastructure projects. One of the firm’s current unique projects focuses on providing support for veterans through a specialized environment that caters to their needs. “We’re working on a space designed specifically for veterans, where they can receive the care and support they need in a comfortable and safe setting,” Scott explains. This project reflects ACE Consulting’s commitment to giving back to the community and ensuring that those who have served the country receive the care they deserve. Another current project that stands out is the company’s work in creating environments for individualswith special needs. “We’rebuilding a facility tailored to individuals with special needs, focusing on providing them with a space that enhances their quality of life,” he says. This project aligns with ACE Consulting’s overall mission of supporting the community and using its expertise to create spaces that serve important social causes. Scott describes this as a rewarding and meaningful project, one that highlights ACE Consulting’s versatility and dedication to improving the lives of others. ACE Consulting’s ability to manage such impactful projects is a testament to its adaptability and commitment to providing exceptional service in diverse areas. “These projects aren’t just about FEBRUARY 2025

construction – they’re about making a real difference in people’s lives,” Scott emphasizes. These initiatives also reflect the company’s deep-rooted culture of service and its desire to positively influence the communities in which it works. One key indicator of ACE Consulting’s success lies in its client retention. “Between 80 and 90% of all the work that we do is from repeat work,” Scott shares. “The other 10 to 15% is new clients that we bring to the table. We have a very strong following, mostly because obviously we’re in a perpetual state. We do one project, and one project leads to another, leads to another, and it’s a never stopping evolution.” This kind of loyalty is a powerful testament to ACE Consulting’s customer service and the quality of its work. “It’s about the experience of working with us, but it’s also about the effectiveness of what we deliver. Our team is qualified, well-trained, and focused on providing efficient, reliable solutions,” Scott says. The company’s success isn’t just about hitting revenue targets. Scott’s vision for ACE Consulting includes a focus on employee satisfaction and growth. The work environment fosters a sense of belonging, flexibility, and fun. Employees are encouraged to enjoy their work and build strong relationships within the team. Company activities like talent shows and regular team events are examples of how ACE Consulting maintains a fun, engaging environment. The company also offers flexible schedules and location options, allowing employees to find a worklife balance that suits their needs. “It’s more than just the job—it’s about being a part of something,” Scott THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE AMERICA - EAST

L.U.S.H. (Lange Urban Sustainable Housing) Homes Building a Greener Future: The Vision of LUSH Homes THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE AMERICA - EAST

L.U.S.H. (Lange Urban Sustainable Housing) Homes, officially launched in late 2022, represents the latest chapter ina family legacy spanningnearly a century. Formed as an LLC in 2021, the company was born out of the long-standing commitment to craftsmanship and innovation that has defined the Lange family for generations. Today, under the leadership of RJ, LUSH Homes is redefining sustainable housing by combining cutting-edge construction methods with a deep-rooted sense of community and environmental responsibility. Reflecting on this legacy, RJ shares, “Our journey started with a simple commitment to quality craftsmanship and has grown into a mission of sustainability and innovation. Every decade has brought new challenges, and we’ve risen to meet them with forward-thinking solutions.” This enduring foundation laid the groundwork for LUSH’s unique patent-pending construction system, which sets it apart in the modern building industry. “Whether it was building wartime products or pivoting to custommillwork, the ability to innovate has always been at the core of who we are,” RJ adds. Starting with small-scale prototypes in their warehouse, LUSH Homes meticulously refined its system to meet rigorous standards. The breakthrough came this year with the first fullscale home in Milwaukee, followed by sustainable builds in Langley, Cedarburg, Green Lake, and more in Milwaukee. “Our Milwaukee project is more than just a house; it’s proof that eco-friendly construction can be beautiful and cost-effective,” says RJ. These projects highlight LUSH’s ability to combine efficiency with sustainability, drawing attention fromadvocates at the local level up to the national economic council at the White House as an economic model that can be scaled across the nation. The Langley project similarly demonstrated the use of sustainable materials and energyefficient designs. “Each project builds on what we’ve learned,” RJ emphasizes. He underscores the company’s motto, which is ‘Rethinking how we build homes.’ Living up to that motto means continually evolving with every build. Some of the key differentiators of the LUSH systems are: The whole framed structure is built out of ¾ plywood and assemble to the sheeting with a rubber malt. Framing is 6x12” and allows for open spans with no trusses/load bearing walls up to 30 feet. A plug and play system that removes most of the need for trades to drill holes. “Its been amazing to see how quickly we can build these big open concept spaces and have them closed off in most cases less than a week.” Discussing the financial advantages of their THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE AMERICA - EAST

approach, RJ explains, “We build at a contractor’s square footage, meaning all usable space, including unfinished basements and garages. We currently can build homes between $150 and $250 per square foot turnkey, compared to $300 to $350 per square foot from most regional builders. That’s a point of pride for us knowing that our system already beats over 150 years of traditional construction and is continuing to get even more efficient.” This commitment to accessible and affordable housing aligns with LUSH’s mission to revitalize communities. Building on its success in Milwaukee, where vacant lots are being transformed into livable, customizable homes, LUSH is now expanding into larger-scale developments. “There are about 3,000 vacant lots in Milwaukee. We want to tackle that head-onbybuildingattainable, starter homes to breathe new life into neighborhoods,” RJ shares. Thurston Woods, where RJ’s greatgrandfather first set down roots from Germany, remains significant to the family. “Thurston Woods is special to us,” RJ reflects. “It’s where our roots are, and it’s meaningful to contribute to its future.” The homes LUSHbuilds are designedwith flexibility in mind, capable of reaching up to three stories while maintaining affordability and environmental efficiency. At the same time, LUSH is involved in a multi-home development in Ozuakee, a 100-acre project that represents the company’s ability to FEBRUARY 2025

scale its values on a larger stage. “We’re excited to be part of this development that will feature 150 homes and community-focused spaces, including an athletic center and accessible housing for individuals with disabilities,” RJ explains. This phased development also includes commercial components designed to foster inclusivity and economic opportunity, with many jobs being staffed by individuals with disabilities. “It’s an exciting project, one that aligns with our values of sustainability and community well-being,” RJ adds. LUSH’s focus on fostering long-term partnerships plays a vital role in its success. Collaborating with state and local organizations has enabled the company to secure support for its communitycentric initiatives. Strategic alliances with developers and policymakers have allowed LUSH to drive forward impactful projects, from the revitalization of Milwaukee neighborhoods to the accessible housing solutions across the state of Wisconsin. These partnerships ensure that LUSH can achieve its vision while addressing broader societal challenges like housing shortages and environmental sustainability. LUSH is testing its scalable business model with local and international projects. LUSH is able to scale by sending data directly to certified partner manufacturers that can produce LUSH kits locally to help keep costs down. shift producing LUSH Kits which will in turn lower overhead. “Our phased scaling approachmaintains quality while gradually increasing output,” RJ notes. “It’s the only way to ensure long-term success through up and down markets.” LUSH’s core commitment to sustainability is evident in its operations. “We waste nothing,” RJ emphasizes. “It’s a closed-loop approach that’s deeply embedded in our manufacturing process.” Parts that are not used in the kits are made into pallets, chairs, horsejacks, and shavings are collected for barn animals. This zero-waste philosophy is coupled with a collaborative model that encourages developers to start small before scaling. Participants typically begin with one to three homes under guided supervision. Upon completion, they receive certification signifying their readiness for larger projects. “This certification embodies our commitment to excellence,” RJ explains. “It’s proof of shared values and quality standards.” Momentum has also been building through strategic partnerships. Their work has caught the attention of several developers in Wisconsin and if their developments exceed expectations that will set the stage for future potential collaborations. Already, RJ says that LUSH Homes has demonstrated its ability to handle large-scale FEBRUARY 2025

projects while remaining true to its core principles of sustainability and innovation, so he is confident that other developers will see their value. Specialized community projects further highlight LUSH’s adaptability. For example, past developments include accessible housing and spaces designed to accommodate individuals with disabilities, reinforcing the company’s dedication to inclusivity. LUSH has worked with local and state organizations to align these efforts with broader community needs, ensuring these homes meet both practical and social goals. “We take pride in these projects because they demonstrate our commitment to addressing unique needs,” RJ says. Innovation and sustainability have been integral to LUSH. “Innovation is not just a buzzword for us,” RJ asserts. “It’s embedded in every step of our process, from the first design draft to the final build.” This dedication is reflected in LUSH’s phased introduction of new developers, its zerowaste approach, and its progressive scaling model, all of which reinforce the company’s reputation for excellence. Looking ahead, LUSH plans to refine its innovative kit distribution system, which promises to revolutionize how homes are built. These kits include pre-assembled components and simple instructions, allowing builders to streamline the process while ensuring consistent quality. “We’ve had tours with a couple hundred people, and there’s always that realization moment,” RJ shares. “The actual product is here. It’s not just a vision; it’s a functional home.” These kits, which include everything packed in a way that ensures accessibility during construction, aim to streamline the building process while maintaining environmental responsibility. As the company grows, its ultimate goal is to become a leader in sustainable housing solutions. “We’ve taken the vision and brought it to life, but this is just the beginning,” RJ concludes. “Our goal is to revolutionize the way people build homes, making it more accessible and sustainable for communities everywhere.” For more on LUSH Homes, their services, capabilities, and past projects – and to get in touch with RJ and his team – visit https://lushhome.org/ or email RJ directly at RJ@LUSHHome.org Follow us on LinkedIn @ LUSH LLC THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE AMERICA - EAST
