Welcome to the inaugural issue of Construction Source Canada, where we highlight the best of the best in building and building products across the country. Within these pages, we’re excited to share the stories of some of the industry’s most established brands, as well as the stories of brands on the rise. We’ll dis- cover their histories, learn their keys to success, and discuss the relationships that make it all possible. We’ll also talk about the future of the industry, and how each business we feature is staking their claim to it. To start it off, we are fortunate to profile EllisDon , a leader in construction and building services not just in Canada, but the world over. Since forming in 1951 in London, Ontario, they have grown to become an international company with offices in 11 cities across the globe and contracts in excess of $3.5 billion every year. Underpinning their success is their highly-acclaimed corporate culture, which has made their company one of the premier employers everywhere they operate. We dived deep into that culture, the values that drive it, and the ways they are always making it better. In addition, we highlighted some of the company’s highest profile projects in Vancouver and the role their teams have played in making them world-class. Also in this issue is PARC Retirement Living, one of British Co- lumbia’s leading providers of independent living retirement res- idences. To date, they have designed and constructed five pur- pose-built communities, and they have three more on the way in Victoria, Kelowna, and Coquitlam. We caught up with their Directors of Design and Operations, who walked us through the process of delivering those communities. We also talked about the design and building partners that have helped them along the way, and what they look for when selecting those team members. Furthermore, this edition wouldn’t be complete without con- sidering one of the most important facets of the construction industry – which is the safety and wellbeing of the people who work in it. To cover that base, we are proud to feature 3M Sci- ence. Applied to Life., an industry-leading science company that spans multiple sectors, but whose impact is particularly significant in the world of safety equipment and training.
